The BC SPCA was established over 120 years ago and we continue to grow stronger every year. We are a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Today we have 44 locations throughout BC that provide a wide range of services and programs to help more than 45,000 animals in distress and need each year.

Our Finance Department is recruiting for an enthusiastic individual to fill a full-time position as Finance Clerk working at our Provincial Office in Vancouver. This position will assist in processing as well as entry and payment of accounts payable invoices for the Society. This position will help to ensure that the processing and payments occur in a timely manner, and all accounts payable records ae accurately maintained.

You have strong data entry capabilities with a high level of attention to detail and strong typing skills. As the successful candidate, you will be professional and will have strong written and verbal communication skills. You take a customer service approach when dealing with internal and external stakeholders. Under the direction of the Controller your accounting experience will assist you in the processing of accounts payable invoices and expense claims. 

The duties will include but are not limited to:

  • receiving invoices and expense claims, checking for completion and correctness

  • entering/posting invoices into accounting software

  • reconciling vendor accounts as necessary

  • collating backup documents and reports for high-volume cheque runs

  • ensuring that cheques are fully and correctly authorized by management

  • distributing cheques in a prompt and efficient manner

  • maintaining filing and records for all paid invoices

  • communicating with BCSPCA staff and vendors to ensure smooth process

  • assisting with payables requirements for interim and year-end audit processes

Required skills, knowledge and abilities to succeed in this role:

  • Post-secondary education as asset

  • Minimum one year accounts payable experience in a high volume environment

  • General knowledge of accounting principles an asset

  • Strong math and analytic skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills

  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy

  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook), intermediate skills in Excel

  • Organized and self-driven with strong attention to detail; can work well independently and as part of a team

  • Must be comfortable in a fast paced and deadline-driven environment

  • Experience with Financial Edge accounting software an asset

  • Experience with “paperless” software/system an asset
