The BC SPCA was established over 120 years ago and we continue to grow stronger every year. We are a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Today we have 44 locations throughout BC that provide a wide range of services and programs to help more than 45,000 animals in distress and need each year.

We are recruiting to fill the position of Regional Animal Management Support position based in Vancouver. This position is a full-time 13-month contract. The successful candidate will oversee the overall flow of animals in the lower mainland and will work with each Branch Manager in the region to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of animal management policies and procedures by staff and volunteers.

The successful candidate of this support role will work towards meeting the Standards of Care for Animals as set out in the ASV Guidelines and supporting the ShelterSense Programs of the BCSPCA. This position is responsible for increasing the flow through of animals in their region in order to achieve length of stay and live release rate targets.

You will work collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders to coordinate and consult on issues as they relate to animal management in Branches. You have a philosophical harmony with the BC SPCA policies, programs and protocols.

Your strong administrative skills have provided you with the ability to maintain records and produce clear written reports. You are proficient at Microsoft Office Suite of programs and have the ability to learn new software quickly.

Knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in this role:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent

  • Post-Secondary Education/AHT designation an asset

  • Must have genuine compassion for animals and previous animal care training or equivalent experience

  • Completion of Dog/Cat/Rabbit Sense training an asset; immediate upgrades or training may be required, along with job-shadowing by the Animal Management Supervisor

  • Animal behaviour training an asset

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels in a positive manner

  • Computer Skills – Windows, MS Office; knowledge of Shelter Buddy an asset

  • Ability to manage and direct staff

  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet priorities and to work within a demanding work schedules with minimal supervision

  • Philosophical harmony with BC SPCA policies, programs and protocols

  • Must have a genuine compassion for animals and sound knowledge of the Five Freedoms and related animal welfare standards

  • Ability to regularly travel throughout the assigned region and Province as necessary

  • Must have a valid BC Class 5 Drivers License
