Mosey was just a young pup when she and her siblings were brought to the BC SPCA Abbotsford Branch in February 2007; much too cold of a time of year for any puppies to be wandering around outside.
Once safely indoors staff and volunteers made sure they were healthy, were eating, had plenty of fresh water, and were warm and cozy. With no identification staff waited to see if anyone wanted to claim all these puppies, but to no one’s surprise not a soul came forward.
So up for adoption these beautiful young puppies went and boy were they adopted quite quickly. In under a month all, including, Mosey were adopted into loving forever homes. Since reading a recent news article Mosey’s family has taken some time to let us know what they have all been up to since adopting.
Hi!
We adopted Beck (previously known as Mosey) from the Abbotsford SPCA in March 2007. She has turned out to be a fabulous family dog! Our daughter was just 5 years old when we adopted Beck and they have grown up together.
Beck is a huge part of our family. We can't have a family cuddle without her getting right into the middle of it. She has made me her "person" but adores everyone. At night she lets me know when it's 11pm, because that's bedtime, by nagging me and staring at me.
When my husband makes tea, tinkles the mug with his spoon as he mixes in milk and sugar, she waits at the top of the stairs because that means it time to go out for her business. She'll expect this even if she was outside only minutes before!
Beck has her buddies at the off-leash dog park. During the school year we keep a routine of going there on certain days at certain times. She has one particular dog friend that she plays well with and looks forward to seeing.
When we first started going to the park she was quite young and submissive to the other dogs. Now she's a little bit of a bossy-pants with younger dogs. She's never, ever aggressive.
On Christmas day each year she gets the same toy, a new Wubba. All the excitement of Christmas morning is felt by her as much as the rest of us. She knows when everyone starts opening gifts that she gets one too! It's always very funny when she expects us to put down what we are unwrapping to play with her and her new Wubba.
Trying to teach her tricks has been a bit of a chore. I don't think she's particularly talented in that area. She is exceptional at sniffing out things though. As a routine she always smells us head to toe when we come home from some other places she hasn't been. She's even gotten sneaky about inappropriate sniffing!
We all really, really love Beck! She is a part of our family in every way.
Nina
We’re so happy to hear how well Beck meshed into her family life. It can be a little trying at times when training a puppy, but you definitely see the advantages later on in life. Thank you to Nina and her family for choosing adoption as your first option.
