Shadow came into the care of the BC SPCA Alberni-Clayoquot Branch when his owners surrendered him as he was not doing well with their children in February 2011. It was hard for Shadow to adjust to being in a shelter as he was very unsure of his surroundings. With regular outings, lots of doggie interactions, and patience the shelter staff were able to make Shadow more comfortable with strangers of all ages. Shadow went up for adoption in May 2011 and was neutered and tattooed shortly after. There was a family that was showing some interest in Shadow as they already had a German shepherd, but they lived quite a ways away; all the way in the Interior.

Thankfully they took the plunge and decided to make the trip to the Island to visit with Shadow and it was a very good visit indeed; they adopted him! His new family had lots of experience already and were able to give him the consistency and training he so desperately wanted. He has overcome many issues and is getting more playful every day, enjoying his time at the dog park more while working through his fears. His fantastic new family has changed his name to Jack and have sent us the adorable picture of him out and about, it’s so great to see how much fun he must be having.
