Wilbur was found wandering the streets of Surrey on October 14 when he was picked up by local Animal Control. He was kept at the BC SPCA Surrey Branch for the stray hold period, but with no identification (collar, tags, license, tattoo, microchip) it was impossible to track down his family. Unfortunately, no one came to claim Wilbur, so he went to get neutered and tattooed. Wilbur was then transferred to the BC SPCA Burnaby Branch through the Drive for Lives program to help maximize his chances for adoption.

Wilbur is great with other dogs, but can bark at the occasional other dog while in his kennel, he's not very used to being here still. He would absolutely love to live in a home with another friend so he can play, run around, and socialize. When walking on a leash Wilbur does quite well; he does use a an easy-walk harness which helps teach him there’s no need to pull. Wilbur is quite intelligent; he already knows how to sit, shake a paw, and to take a treat gently. He can definitely learn more tricks in the future and would love the challenge; however, he is an active young man and needs to be exercised lots before he'll be ready to start learning. Wilbur enjoys long walks (possibly on the beach), a good jog, and snow!
Wilbur, like many animals that come into shelters, may have a bit of separation anxiety and can get anxious when left alone. It is recommended that he become accustomed to being left alone for short periods at a time so that he learns it's okay when you leave the home. He is also quite a big guy and may not always realize it, it's best that he go to a home with older children if any. If you think Wilbur may be the dog for you read up on the Five steps to adoption and contact the BC SPCA Burnaby Branch.
