Woof! More happy dogs in B.C.

Local news

Rina was surrendered to a BC SPCA humane officer when she needed more care than her care givers could provide. Just a young pup she was brought to the BC SPCA Kamloops Branch to help her find a forever home.

After a couple weeks, Rina had been spayed, micro chipped, and groomed so that her new home would have a head start at caring for her. With some work on Rina’s part she started to adjust to shelter life and all the love she would receive from staff and volunteers.

Within the month Rina had met her match, a woman who fell in love with her eyes and everything else fell into place. Rina now enjoys life in Vernon as her new family describes below.

I fell in love with Rina's (now known as Phoenix) big brown eyes and sweet temperament when I adopted her in March of 2012, from the Kamloops SPCA. She was a shy, gentle girl that loved to give kisses and be pet.

It was a long drive for her from the Kamloops SPCA to her new home in Vernon, but once she arrived she made herself right at home. Phoenix loves her crate and soft pillow as well as her fox toy and other various chew toys. She especially loves her new yard where she enjoys playing fetch and rolling around in the grass.

Phoenix also enjoys her two long walks a day, as she walks very well on and off leash on our walking trails and never leaves my side. She has met lots of new doggy friends and people friends alike, and is always friendly and gentle with each. Her nature is so kind in fact she rarely barks or is bothered by other neighbourhood pets or birds.

Phoenix's biggest accomplishment in her new home was learning to walk up and down the stairs. She was very timid of even a single stair when I brought her home; but with patience and one paw at a time she is now comfortably (and a little clumsily) running up and down our stair case :) She is very proud of herself for this.

Phoenix's new brother hawk, our SPCA adopted cat, are getting along great. Although they are still getting to know each other, Phoenix understands he is also a part of our family and allows me some cuddle time with him also. She is a big puppy at 4.5 months weighing 37 pounds! She is very healthy and growing every day.

Phoenix is a wonderful addition to our family and we love her very much. We are looking forward to our puppy classes together and watching her grow up to be a beautiful dog.

Thank you for taking such good care of her until we were able to bring her to her happy ending home :)
Warm Regards,
Kristen

It can sometimes be a tough learning curve in areas no one would anticipate, but we’re happy to hear that Phoenix has conquered her fear of stairs and is now having the time of her life romping around the various levels of her new home. Thank you to Kristen and family for opening your home up to not only one, but two BC SPCA animals who were looking for their happy endings.
