South (aka Scout)

Adopted: October 29, 2016

South is a sweet little guy who came into the care of the BC SPCA Kamloops & District Branch along with his mom and littermates.

South hadn’t been handled much yet as a kitten, so it took some time and a lot of patience and cuddles to convince South that the world isn’t as scary as he thought.

With a lot of love and attention, South was soon ready for adoption and was placed in his first home. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out because South was too anxious in the busy house and it was clear he would be happier in a quieter home.

When South was returned to our care, we were glad we had a second chance to find him the perfect forever home. It didn’t take long before South was discovered by his new guardian who we knew would be a great match.

South is now five-months-old and is known as Scout. He has spent more than half of his young life in his new forever home. His guardian has sent us this update to share:

I'd been intending to adopt an older cat, but when I saw three-month-old Scout's face on the BC SPCA website I knew I had to see him. It turned out he'd been adopted a few days before, but then returned because the people were impatient with how timid he was as he'd hid and wouldn't come out.

I knew he just needed some care and patience. When I met him at the BC SPCA Kamloops & District Branch for the first time and rolled a toy over to him and he pushed it back at me, I knew I would take him home.

I tried to keep Scout in a contained space when I first brought him home, but he leapt over the barrier and ended up hiding inside my couch for 16 hours. I was worried he wouldn't get enough food or water, but at 3 a.m. he finally came out and jumped up onto the end of my bed, only slightly traumatized. We've been best friends ever since.

Almost three months later, Scout is five months old. He is very affectionate: he strokes my face with his little paw and gives kisses. He's also very playful. The feather on a string and mini tent are his favourites. He makes me laugh every day!

It’s wonderful to hear that Scout has settled in so well and is becoming more relaxed. Thank you for all your patience and for making adoption your first choice. Scout is a lucky little guy to get another chance at a great life with you.
