WHAT'S HAPPENING

Give the Gift of Time

Each year the Kelowna Branch of the BC SPCA relies on hundreds of volunteers, who have a variety of interests and talents, to provide care and improve the welfare of animals in our shelter and our community.

We would love to have you join our team and help us make a difference!

Volunteer at the BC SPCA

You can volunteer with the animals, in one of our many programs that provide care and enrichment to our animals, or for the animals, by using a special skill set that you may possess, such as graphic design, event planning, a trade or other specialized skills.

All applicants must first attend a volunteer orientation. The orientation provides an introduction to the Society, its structure, mission, beliefs and overview of its programs. There is a $10 non-refundable administration fee payable at the orientation.

Please click here to apply online today!

Animal Foster Program

The BC SPCA Foster Program benefits animals who have a good chance of adoption, but who are either too young, sick, injured, under socialized or emotionally stressed to survive in the shelter environment. Instead, animals are cared for and rehabilitated in a nurturing foster home. Healthy adult animals are also placed in foster care when space is limited in our shelters.

*You must be 19 years of age or older to be a foster parent. Thank you in advance for your interest!

Youth Volunteers

Children 9-15 years may volunteer alongside a parent or designated guardian, who will also be an active volunteer in our branch, and will supervise their child at all times. We encourage families to apply; please be aware that these opportunities may be limited.

Volunteers aged 16 to 18 years must submit a written release and consent form signed by their parent or guardian prior to volunteering.

Please download and read the following before committing to become a BC SPCA Volunteer.

BC SPCA Volunteer Orientation Manual (PDF format, 103 KB)

Community Council Committees

To assist the society in achieving its goals it is critical that Community Councils throughout the province are actively involved. While the BC SPCA's Board of Directors has overall responsibility for the governance and decision-making of the society, the Community Council's input to local, regional and society plans and programs is vital to our ongoing success. To learn more about community councils, visit our main governance section.

Kudos for Kindness

We salute and honour dedicated volunteers who give the gift of time.
