Adopt "A Friend For Life" This Holiday Season
Is the slogan for this years 7th annual "Home 4 the Holidays" adoption campaign. We are hoping to adopt 250 homeless pets from November 2nd to January 3rd ,2010. The Nanaimo and District SPCA is proud to join over 3000 shelters and rescue groups worldwide with a combined goal of 1 million pets adopted.
It is the first "Home 4 the Holidays" Adoption Campaign for new manager Leon Davies, who took the reins last February. "I am excited about this campaign which makes such a difference for Nanaimo's homeless pets and gives them a chance to find a home during the holiday season.
|
Our experience at the SPCA has been that return rates are actually lower in January and promoting our pets during a time when people are thinking about adding a pet takes away business from puppy and kitty mills, plus backyard breeders. This year we invite prospective adopters to preview our homeless pets online at www.spca.bc.ca/nanaimo, where most of our cats can be seen on YouTube, which will make the decision which cat to adopt easier.
The extra publicity "Home 4 the Holidays" generates through weekly updates and feature pets on Shaw TV, The Wave radio station's Morning show with Heather and Ray on Friday, about 8:15 and in Thursdays' Nanaimo's News Bulletin, makes all the difference to our adoption numbers." Leon Davies comments. "We are hoping we have a mild winter especially around Christmas. Last year the unusual snowfall before and during Christmas stopped the momentum we had to reach our goal of 250 and sadly we missed it by only 17 adoptions.
We would love to reach our goal this year and hopefully even exceed it and with our new Satellite location Bosley's soon to be adopting cats this should be possible."
Visit the Nanaimo and District SPCA at 2200 Labieux Rd. today and adopt your "Friend for Life". Download our poster for more information

The Nanaimo BCSPCA would like to thank the Grand Hotel for hosting the fantastic "Pancake Breakfast" event on August 15th. The hotel supplied, at no cost, the staff, the set up and of course all the planning.
The event raised over $1200 for the care of animals in the Nanaimo district and we hope to do it again next year.
Nanaimo Mayor John Rutten was even there to help flip the flapjacks!
We would like to give a huge thanks to the following attendees and sponsors:
- Neptune Food services for supplying the pancake batter and sausages
- Canterbury Coffee for supplying the coffee and tea
- Coca Cola for supplying cold drinks
- Nanaimo Toyota for the large tent and car display
- The Art of Music for supplying the DJ services
- CKAY FM and Paul Nuttel for all the radio advertising spots
- Lee Mason; Director of the Chamber of Commerce
- Mark Drysdale; Exec. Director of Nanaimo Tourism
- Mini Party Animals for bringing "Puppy" the miniature horse

We at the Nanaimo shelter are so grateful for the community support we are receiving in a tough year and look forward to working closely with our community partners well into the future!
