Adopted: May 20, 2016

Belle is a two-year-old German shepherd rottweiler mixed breed dog and she is as sweet as she is beautiful. Belle was surrendered into the care of the BC SPCA North Cariboo District Branch in May, 2016 as her previous guardian could sadly no longer care for her.

Belle has an incontinence issue, but it is controllable with medication that she has to take for the rest of her life. We knew Belle was going to make the perfect dog for the right person, but we also knew that Belle wouldn’t be the perfect match for everyone. Belle exhibited some anxiety and over-excitement that indicated to us that she would do best with an experienced guardian that could confidently train Belle to be a wonderful obedient dog.

Belle didn’t have to wait very long at the branch before she was discovered by her new guardian Kara who instantly fell in love. Belle was quickly adopted and has been settling into her new life ever since. Kara has sent up this update to let us know how Belle is progressing:

I had been visiting BC SPCA locations all over the lower mainland for over a year. I met so many wonderful dogs, but it just wasn't the right time.

Working as a cook in a bush camp brought me to Prince George. On a day off I thought I'd check out the local BC SPCA branch, just for something to do. Once we locked eyes, that was it. I couldn't leave without Belle.

It took Belle a few days to get acquainted with the other dogs in camp, but surprisingly she adapted almost instantly to camp life. She loves the water and even takes herself down to the lake for a dip when it gets hot. She has a new best friend, Benson, one of the other dogs in camp. They chase each other and play all day long, she sleeps so deep and happy at the end of the day.

Belle and I bonded quickly, she's always by my side in camp from day one. I may not believe in love at first sight, but I do believe I have found my new best friend and soul mate. Now I can't imagine how I got on before without her.

Next on the agenda, now that my camp job is nearly finished, is a road trip in my motorhome through the Kootenays. With her as my co-pilot, it'll be the adventure of a lifetime and the first of many, I'm sure.

What a wonderful update. We are so happy to hear that Belle is doing so well and taking all the changes in her life in stride. Thank you for making adoption your first choice and giving Belle a second chance to have a life full of adventure and love.
