Flicka was a pregnant stray that was brought into the BC SPCA Shuswap Branch in September 2011. She was taken into foster care so that she could have her puppies in a comfortable home environment where all her needs could be looked after. She was a wonderful mum to her litter of ten puppies and treated each and every one like they were number one.
Eventually it was time for Flicka to part ways with her puppies and they were given a ride on the Drive for Lives program to the BC SPCA Chilliwack Branch and the BC SPCA Richmond Education & Adoption Centre Branch. Thane was one of several pups from the litter that came to Richmond.
Thane could be quite the handful at time; big, bouncy, and sprite full of energy. He was very much like his other siblings and thrived during playtime, he always seemed to think he was invincible! It didn’t take long before Thane met his match with Rick and Judy, days really. His new family has since sent us a quick update on what Thane, now Dodger, has been up to since adoption.
We have changed Thane's name to Dodger, had his first vet check up and a shot and that same night attended puppy classes. We would to thank the person who was in charge of his foster care, their early training was so very good, few accidents in the house, he now uses the dog door for all his business.
Have a very Merry Christmas and thank you, Rick & Judy
Then Rick and Judy sent us another update just a few weeks later:
Dodger is now 22lbs. and doesn't fit under the coffee table. He plays with other family dogs and January 2nd will attend his 2nd puppy class and January 5th he'll be 4 months old. No dog parks yet however we walk him 4 times a day.
Happy New Year to you and all your staff, Rick & Judy
What an adorable young man Dodger is growing into, we think it’s great that he is making many doggy friends and learning proper socialization. Thank you to Rick and Judy for making adoption your first option, Dodger is a very lucky dog.
