Hercules was abandoned by his family when they decided to up and move away without him; they left him stranded in their old home with no means of survival. In January 2012, the BC SPCA Shuswap Branch took this guy in and began caring for him immediately.
There were obvious signs of fighting on Hercules’ body and staff immediately made sure all his cuts and scrapes were tended to. Once he had healed up a bit it was time for him to be neutered and tattooed, this way if he was ever outside and lost we would be able to find his home for him.
Hercules warmed up to staff and volunteers quite quickly; he was first to greet you when you walked into the communal cat room and always had a new story to tell you. Hercules did not wait long before a new home came along to adopt him, he was adopted on Valentine’s Day and his family has updated us on how he’s doing. With a new life and a new name (Sylvester) he seems to have hit the jackpot.
Sylvester is doing great!! We love him so much and we are so happy to have him in our family! His meowing has mellowed some what, he is definitely a chatty fellow and he follows me around the house "helping" me do housework.
We followed some of the tips about "training" him using the water bottle since he had a bad habit of howling at our doors (they have windows in them) and trying to race out the door when it was opened, after several times with the water bottle he hasn't bothered with the doors. Now he sits 2 feet back from the door and meows at them LOL
We got him a really nice scratch post with a house on top which is in front of our bedroom window and looks out over the private backyard and he loves sleeping there.
So all is going well. We really couldn't have asked for a better cat.
Thank you!! Jennifer, Kevan and family
What a lucky guy Sylvester ended up being, we’re so happy to hear such a fantastic update. It can be difficult to train an outdoor cat to stay inside, but it sounds like it’s going well. Thank you to Jennifer, Kevan and family for making adoption your first option.
