Local news

In March 2011, Java and her sister Mocha were brought to the BC SPCA Surrey Branch together as strays. It didn't take long for Java's forever home to find her and she was adopted within days after first walking through the shelter doors.

Here is an update from her forever home:

Thank you for allowing this amazing dog to come home with me. She is the biggest joy ever!! We have renamed her Alex, which she took to in a couple of days. She is super bright, calm, no cat issue what so ever and LOVES to learn tricks! We have her entered in a group obedience class starting next month, pet therapy training lined up and we are excited about trialing her in obedience thru the CKC, apparently she is true enough to an American Staffordshire terrier so that I can get her PEN # for obedience trials.

Whoever she meets she manages to switch their mindsets of the pit phobia...she is a great breed example and we get her out there many times a week socially. She has proven to be the BEST running partner! In run mode she easily moves into her 'spot' and we explore the trails of Belcara, Anmore and Buntzen Lake. She has given me confidence to go on trails that I would normally not go on alone for one reason or another. She has  put on almost 6 lbs of muscle and she is now super fit. She does seem to have some food sensitivities,  not bad but enough to say 'she can't have that'...much to her dismay as she is a food hound!

There has not been one issue with blending her into the pack of humans and dogs. I was specifically looking for her pack order as I knew it would be a good blend. My older St Poodle so desperately wants to play with her but Alex has never gone into 'pitty  mode' with her.  She doesn't seem to have any aggression, fear or otherwise to any other dogs.Clients  love her and she accepts the pats on her head from anyone!

Cheers,
Kathryn

Thank you for the update Kathryn, we are excited to see that Alex is loving her new active lifestyle and family. It is wonderful to see her get the second chance at the life she deserves.
