Plans for New BC SPCA Centre in Surrey
The City of Surrey recently announced the end of its kenneling contract with the BC SPCA, effective April 30. While this will require SPCA staff and volunteers to vacate the city-owned shelter on 152nd street on this date, we have exciting plans for a new animal centre in Surrey.
The BC SPCA has purchased 5.5 acres of land at 16748 50th Avenue (between Highway 10 and 32nd Avenue) to create a new centre of excellence for animal welfare. The centre will be the site of leading-edge programs and services to promote the BC SPCA’s mission to protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia.
Phase I of the new plan involves renovations to a home on the property. This refitted facility will house cruelty investigations staff from the region and will serve as an education centre and an adoption facility for cats and small animals. A more detailed plan for all other aspects of the new centre is currently being finalized for presentation to the BC SPCA Board of Directors.
“We are incredibly grateful to our amazing staff, volunteers and donors for their loyalty, support and commitment to animals in need,” said Craig Daniell, chief executive officer for the BC SPCA. “We believe our new centre of excellence will be a unique facility that will raise animal welfare to a new level and we look forward to sharing more details in the very near future.”
Regular updates on interim and long-term plans for the site will be provided for staff, volunteers and supporters as we move forward together.
Thank you for your continued support of animals in need!
