Llooking for a nnew ppet? Have you given any thought to a llama?
Llamas are surprisingly easy to accommodate. The do need about an acre of land, but they're inexpensive to feed, they're wonderful watchdogs, great companion animals to both people and other farm animals, they're gentle and they provide wool. They can even be housetrained!

The BC SPCA's Surrey shelter is currently caring for 10 llamas, including a gorgeous 16- or 17-year-old senior named Mork who is actually from Peru. Mork was among the first llamas to be imported into the country before they were bred domestically.

Mork arrived at the shelter along with eight others - Mindy, George, Stella, Ruby, Cocoa, Mocha, Mary-Kate and Ashley - after they were abandoned by their former guardian in Chilliwack. A 10th llama, the regal Queen Ann, was picked up as a stray near a South Surrey intersection.

All the llamas are in great physical shape and are currently being halter-trained so they can be taken for walks, easily groomed and sheared when the time comes. Prepared llama wool is sought-after because it's clean, odourless, greaseless and light.
If you are interested in meeting Mork or any of the other llamas at the Surrey shelter, telephone us at the BC SPCA Surrey shelter at 604-597-5655.
