Local news

Pepper was surrendered by her owners when they could no longer afford to look after her financially. She was brought into the BC SPCA Trail Regional Branch on May 17, 2011 with high hopes of finding her a home quickly. She was made available for adoption a few days later, but was still awaiting her spay appointment.

Only nine days after being in our care, Pepper had been spayed and tattooed and was raring to go to her new forever home. Although a bit timid at times, Pepper was a lovely cat that kept getting overlooked; all she needed was some time to get to know you. Sadly, Pepper became one of the many animals in the BC SPCA’s care to be labelled a “long-term resident”, meaning she had been at the Trail Branch for quite some time.

It wasn’t until October that she met the family that was perfect for her. They had already travelled across the country to relocate and were looking to adopt a new furry friend. Her hopeful new Mum came back several times to make sure that Pepper was the right fit for their family before making it official. Not only did her new family adopt Pepper, but they were also kind enough to donate some extra supplies for our shelter and to write us an update on Pepper’s new life.

My partner and I recently relocated to British Columbia from Ontario and found our new home was in need of a new little, fuzzy family member. After seeing Pepper's pictures and description on the BC SPCA website, I knew I wanted to take her home with me. When visiting Pepper at the shelter, she was very sweet and fell asleep on my lap. I took her home with me that day.

When Pepper arrived at her new forever home, she was rather shy and nervous. She hid under a bed for the first two days but would sneak out for some quality cuddle time with her new owners. Pepper is now very comfortable and relaxed in her new environment. She is very affectionate and spends most of her days napping on the couch.

She absolutely loves being cuddled and is definitely a lap cat. Pepper enjoys playing from time to time during the day, but spends most nights running around with her favorite catnip toy. Pepper also loves sitting on the window ledge and staring out of the window. She is much loved in her new home and we are so blessed to have her.

Thank you to Sarah for the lovely happy ending, we look forward to hearing more about Pepper and her wonderful new life in the future. Thank you so much for making adoption your first option.
