Jessie is a charismatic 3 year-old black and white Dutch mix, (neutered) male rabbit. He was found as a stray in the rural area outside of Fruitvale, and now awaits his forever home at the BC SPCA Trail Regional Branch.
Jessie is friendly and curious, and is often compared to a cat while he roams the office. He is litter trained and tries to only go in his kennel, but sometimes leaves a trail of rabbit poops to find his way home.
Rabbits have become a popular companion pet as they have unique personalities, and once used to their human caregivers, they can be fun and affectionate.
The two things that make rabbits happier and healthier pets are security and companionship. Rabbits are a prey species, either freezing on the spot or running away when frightened. To feel secure, Jessie needs a place he can run to when spooked, either out in a room or in a cage enclosure.
Rabbits in the wild live in groups, and enjoy a rabbit companion when living in a domestic setting. When it comes to Jessie, he is a little bit different. He actually enjoys the company of cats, so he could do well in a home without a rabbit companion if he has adequate time with you and perhaps a cat friend.
If you are looking for a rabbit companion, come to the BC SPCA Trail Regional Branch and meet Jessie, or contact the shelter at 250-368-5910 or trail@spca.bc.ca for more information on Jessie and rabbits in general.
February is Spay and Neuter Awareness Month. For the love of your pet, please spay or neuter your companion animal to help prevent pet overpopulation.
