Thumper

ID: 237802

Share:

Thumper is a spayed five-year-old American Lop mix with short almond and brown fur. She was originally purchased from a pet store with her little mate Buttercup but had to be surrendered to the BC SPCA Trail Regional Branch after the original owners developed allergies. Since being here Buttercup has been adopted, but Thumper is still awaiting her new home.

Rabbits can be really great pets. Thumper has been litter box trained. She is spayed, so no longer has a strong drive to spray territory, will continue to use a litter box without problems. Once you show her where her things are, she can learn to roam around a larger area in her new home. Just make sure there is nothing you want chewed, since rabbits are prone to chewing. Offer safe chewable toys and it will distract her from your furniture and rugs.

Thumper may also get along with your cats that you may have now. Well mannered dogs may be alright with her too, as long as the dog is gentle with her. Since she used to live with another rabbit, she may get along with your spayed and neutered house rabbit too. Introduce them for short periods at first, so that they can get to know each other and you can monitor their reactions.

Thumper is a really nice girl who is looking for a home where a house rabbit is really wanted. Unfortunately too many rabbits are adopted for Easter or birthday gifts for kids, and once the novelty wears off, they are either banished to the garage where they get little to no human affection, or surrendered to shelters. Just because she is a rabbit, doesn’t mean that she doesn’t deserve the same amount of attention as your dogs and cats. The more you handle and love them, the more bonded they will become to you, which is rewarding for everyone.

Thumper can be found at the Trail BC SPCA or you can call for more info at 250-368-5910 or trail@spca.bc.ca.
