Local news

GT was a stray that had been found wandering the streets of Surrey in October 2011. She was picked up and brought to the BC SPCA Surrey Branch to help locate her owners. Sadly, her owners no longer wanted to care for her anymore and left her at the Surrey shelter. It was discovered that GT had an issue with her left front leg and she went to many vet appointments to have x-rays and testing done.

GT may always have problems with her leg, but that didn’t stop her from acting as though nothing in the world was wrong. She loved going out for walks and could sometimes be heard barking in her kennel when she thought it was time for another. GT did great with other dogs and loved to play in puddles, but she was a bit older in age and we really needed to find the right home for her.

GT became available for adoption in November, but the right people weren’t interested in her. Many older animals get overlooked for puppies or kittens, but the great part about GT is you already knew her behaviours and she had already learned so much that there wasn’t much left to teach. She was taken to the BC SPCA Vancouver Branch through the Drive for Lives program and wouldn’t you know it, only a week later Harlan and Kate had met their perfect match.

Previously named GT now Ripley

From the moment we met her we fell in love with her. Ripley is the most amazing companion anyone could ask for, she rarely barks or causes mischief (garbage cans not included). Since arriving in our home she has been showered with attention and spoiled with all the belly scratching she could dream of. On walks through the park, her fascination with squirrels and bicycles gives us our exercise for the day. On more than one occasion she has been met with aggression from other dogs but Ripley just sniffs, wags her tail, and keeps on walking.

Although she has her previous leg injury still lingering, it doesn’t slow her down one bit, she’s our own little gimp giving us the greatest love we can ever know. The ride home from the SPCA was the biggest test with Ripley, we weren’t sure if she would be sad, scared or timid but all she showed was excitement, we knew then that she was going to be the perfect addition to our family. The best feeling in the world is coming home to her smile and thumping of her tail, laying by the fire at night with her head resting on the ground and her paw on our legs. We are so blessed to have Ripley in our lives and any other dog will never be able to compare.

We’ll love her forever
Harlan and Kate

A heartwarming new beginning for Ripley with a forever family that loves her to pieces, we’re sure she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Thank you so much to Harlan and Kate for opening your hearts to this lovely lady and for making adoption your first option.
