Grimley was a very large young adult dog when he came into the care of the BC SPCA Vancouver Branch in January 2011; his family had been unable to keep him any longer and were unable to find him a home on their own. Grimley had plenty of energy and would need a very active home to be able to keep up with him. Being so large and bouncy can be a dangerous combination, but Grimley was on the fast track to learning his manners.
A couple came by to visit with Grimley and then later brought their own dog by to meet him too. Everyone got along quite well and they decided to welcome Grimley into their family bringing him home that day. His new family wrote to share an update on Grimley (now known as Finn) and a few photos:
Bringing home an 80 lb., untrained puppy was certainly a daunting task, especially since our first dog Miko is elderly; however, we just knew Finn would be worth all the work ahead of us. We hired an awesome trainer for one-on-one obedience training, and Finn immediately showed us what a sweet and clever dog he is. He quickly learned all his basic commands, and has slowly but steadily developed good leash manners. We are still working on strategies to manage his high prey drive.
His favorite place in the world is the off-leash dog park by our house. He has many canine friends of all sizes at the park. He loves to run and wrestle with the big dogs, and will lie down on the ground to make himself small enough to play with the little ones. We've met such wonderful people and dogs through our evenings and weekends at the dog park, and we have Finn to thank for that.
Finn is a total charmer. He loves people and is learning to sit nicely when he wants to say "hello" to someone. He's very gentle with children, and the kids we encounter just love meeting a dog that's taller than they are. At home in the evenings, he climbs up onto the couch and obligingly lets us use him as a pillow.
Because of the huge age difference between Finn and Miko they don't always see eye-to-eye when Finn wants to play, but they are more than happy to nap on the floor together. Finn is learning to respect Miko's space, and in turn, Miko is learning to tolerate Finn's exhuberance. Both dogs love playing in puddles and hanging out on the porch watching the world go by.
We love coming home from work and seeing our two boys standing at the top of the stairs and wagging their tails. Adopting these dogs has made our lives infinitely richer and we are so grateful for the privilege of being their family.

What a fantastic way for Finn to spend his days, hanging out with his new best friend and lounging about on a couch. Thank you so much to Andrew and Sasha for welcoming this big guy into your home, he may be a bit of a couch hog, but with a face like his how can you say no.
