Rico was a handsome young man the first time he came into our care. It was a hot sunny day in August 2006 when he was discovered exploring the streets of Burnaby. He was picked up and brought to the BC SPCA Burnaby Branch to help him reunite with his owner.
Within days his owner came to pick him up, apparently he had a penchant for escaping. We didn’t hear anything from Rico for years until coincidentally on another hot summer day in August 2010 when he was picked up as a stray.
This time Rico had switched things up and was found in Vancouver, so he was brought to the BC SPCA Vancouver Branch to help reunite him once again. He had definitely aged, but was doing so gracefully. After no response from his guardian Rico was soon made available for adoption.
It took less than ten days for this personable cat to find his perfect family. His new mum has written us so that we can rest easy knowing he’s doing just fine.
Hi there,
I would like to give the SPCA staff a quick update on Enriko – now known as Mr Big. He is a beautiful big black cat that at the age of 7 years old found himself homeless at the Vancouver SPCA Aug 2010.
He came home with me and has been a wonderful addition to the family. The first 3 months were a little trying as Mr Big was very nocturnal and not used to living in an apartment. However he did learn to adjust and sleeps the night away now.
The most amazing thing is that my husband who has always been indifferent to my previous cats has fallen for this big black cat who is so interactive, vocal and just wants to be with you.
Not only has he won us over but also the neighbours. He gets to visit Brian and his fish next door. His girlfriend lives across the courtyard – they don’t do well up close and in person but seem to love each other through the windows!
Thank you to all the staff at the Vancouver SPCA for all their hard work in finding these wonderful animals homes.
Regards,
Suzanne
It’s great that Mr. Big has taken the transition from outdoor to indoor so well, it can be a tough adjustment, but he seems to be taking it in stride. Thank you to Suzanne and her wonderful husband for making adoption your first option.
