Fitsy

Adopted: October 8, 2008

We found Fitsy online at the Vernon Branch of the BC SPCA in October of 2008. When we went to see her, she was just quietly sitting in the back of her cage, but gladly came out as we opened her door. She snuggled right in to both me and my husband, when we held her. It was hard to put her back. That afternoon, we phoned and said that we would like to adopt her. We were told we could pick her up in a couple of days, after she was spayed.

Fitsy was listed as a two-year old cat, found as a stray, and had already been at the shelter for three months. Her name reminded me of a dear friend. My husband had never been a cat owner before, but gladly went along with us adopting her.

The day before we were to pick her up, the shelter phoned and said "we have some good news and some bad news". The good news was that Fitsy was ready to be picked up the next day. The bad news was, that when the vet went to spay her, he discovered that she had already been spayed. It turned out that Fitsy was tattooed in the wrong ear, and so it went unnoticed. The vet looked up her records, which listed her as a 12 year old cat....a far cry from two! Her owners were not able to be contacted.

The shelter asked if we still wanted her because of her age, and after some humming and hawing, we decided that at least we would be giving her a good "old age" home. So, we picked her up the next day. When we got her home, we sat on the couch and let her come to us. Immediately, she jumped up on the couch next to us and stretched out beside us, as if to say "Thank you".

We have now had Fitsy for over a year and a half, and are happy to report that she is still young at heart. She is so playful, so affectionate, so clingy..... not independent at all. We joke that she thinks she is a dog....she comes when you call, she greets us when we come home, she lingers at the top of the stairs when we leave, she gets extra clingy when one of us is away. We take her with us as much as we can when we go away. If we cannot take her with us, we get someone to stay with her, or take her to the "grandparents". We honestly think that she has abandonment issues.

Fitsy is an absolutely wonderful addition to our family. We are so glad that we found her and are able to provide such a loving home for her. She has claimed her spot in the bed....right between our two pillows. We got her her own pillow, so that she would stay off ours. She LOVES people, including children....she just wants to be the centre of attention. We can't imagine our home without her.

Here's to happy endings!
