Shilo is a German Shepherd mixed breed dog who was surrended to the BC SPCA Victoria Branch on March 9, 2012 when his owner died.
Shilo had a rough start and suffered from Kennel Cough, as well as a sinus and eye infection, that made him groggy and grumpy. However, with some loving care from his new human parents, Sarah and Liam, and medicine from the vet, he has made a full recovery and is now a bundle of energy and good health.
Shilo is now a certified therapy pet with the Pacific Animal Therapy Society (PATS) and visits residents in Jubilee Hospital and other long term facilities who love to give him lots of cookies and hugs. Shilo is quick to reciprocate the affection with lots of kisses of his own.
One of his favorite pastimes is to spend a day hiking, chasing birds and rodents, and making doggie friends along the way.
We recently received this story, along with some photos of Shilo which gives a glimpse into this dog's wonderful personality.

Shilo is in great shape mostly due to my love of hiking and running. His human dad, Liam, calls them death marches, but Shilo calls them HEAVEN ON EARTH.
He also loves his work as a certified therapy dog and is extremely affectionate with everyone he meets. The other day we were sitting and waiting for his grandma and he decided to wander off into a church. The priest there loved the surprise visit and gave him lots of hugs and attention – it seems like Shilo is irresistible to everyone he meets.
Shilo is also a huge fan of picnics, wrestling with his dad, sticks, and singing. Singing you may ask? Well, when his dad throws sticks to Shilo, he says…what am I, a retriever? That’s where the howling comes into play and somebody has to tell him to behave!
We are extremely grateful to have Shilo in our life and want to thank everyone for taking care of him in his time of need. Sarah and Liam
Shilo certainly sounds like an incredible dog who enjoys giving back to all those he meets along the way. His story is a true testament to the healing power of animals. Thank you Sarah and Liam, for making adoption your first option.
