Elizabeth & Griz (aka Tank & Spinner)
Adopted: April 11, 2011
|
Elizabeth and Griz were surrendered to the BC SPCA Victoria Branch when their owners were going through a divorce and neither were able to care for them. Chinchillas aren’t your average animal; they can live up to 25 years, are nocturnal and need just the right owner to bond with.
Elizabeth and Griz sadly had to wait quite some time for the right person to come along, but when Nic showed up to adopt them you could tell they were going to be in great hands. Nic has since sent us an update on how these bonded chinchillas are doing and what their new names are.
I had viewed the adoption page on the SPCA website, there were these two cute beige chinchillas on there, the photos were simply adorable. After I saw the pictures, I didn't hesitate to jump in my car and drive down to the shelter to see and possibly adopt them.
At first the two chinchillas were a little afraid of me. I put them in their new cage in their new forever home, and they just sat in the corner, hiding in their little house. It was hard work for me to get them to realize I wasn't going to hurt them. Every day for a month, I would just sit by their cage with the door open to see if they would come out. Tank (mother of Spinner), was the first to hop out of the cage and onto my lap. She sat there sniffing at me, nibbled on my hair then flopped over on her side and rubbed her face on my leg. Spinner was still iffy about me at the time but today, she's doing great.
Tank and Spinner both LOVE massages and chin scratches. Every morning I get up for work, they are both sitting there, as hyper as ever, at the cage door waiting for me to come by and give them some chin scratches and let them run around the house a bit. I would like to thank the staff at the BC SPCA.
What a wonderful way for Tank and Spinner to spend their loves, frankly everyone here is a just a little bit jealous of all the massages! We’re happy to hear they eventually settled in and are now living their lives in the lap of luxury, they deserve it. Thank you to Nic for making adoption your first (and simultaneously second) option.
