Timmy came to the BC SPCA Victoria Branch with his sister, Tammy, in May 2010; their owner had left them both behind when moving. Timmy had some troubles in the beginning adjusting to shelter life, it was an unfamiliar environment and that can be a difficult change for some dogs.
Staff and volunteers worked with Timmy on a regular basis to help him overcome some of his fears by introducing him to new things (sounds, smells, people, and objects) on a regular basis. Little by little Timmy started to come out of his shell and he was a wonderful dog. Timmy would need a patient and active home and it took quite some time, but he soon found what he needed in Jess and Sara. Since bringing him home they have worked diligently with him so that he can continue to grow and flourish and they have written us to let us know how that has been going.
In the year that Timmy has been with us, he has blossomed into a dog SO different from the fear aggressive, shy, timid dog he was when he first came into the shelter. While he continues to work on some leash reactivity, he has made leaps and bounds, and enjoys walks along the Galloping Goose and romps in the park! He even goes to daycare regularly and absolutely loves it; he is always so happy and pooped when he comes home!
He has learned to ask for snuggles and he LOVES belly rubs... and he even gets jealous when his foster sister is getting love! He tried agility and was a real natural, and quickly made it all the way to the advanced class; he plans to continue agility in the future!
He is happy and healthy, and loves joining his mums on all sorts of outings and errands. He does great with the kids in his life, knowing he has to be gentle and slow with them, and is a loyal boy who has developed a strong protective streak when it comes to his family.
After a big day he is so happy to come home, find his comfy place on the couch or on his bed, and settle in for a big nap! He is such a smart boy and learns routines and rules quickly, and is happy to learn new things - especially when there's food in it for him!
He is utterly spoiled when he visits his "grandparents", getting tons of treats and attention that he just soaks up. We love him more than anything, and can't imagine our life without his big happy goofy face and "batman ears"!
What a difference a year can make! Timmy is now surrounded by people who love him and can’t imagine life without him. Thank you to Jess and Sara for making adoption your first option.
