In May 2011, a gorgeous little Akita Inu/German Shepherd cross puppy named Kodiak was surrendered to the BC SPCA North Cariboo Branch in Prince George, along with his sister, as his owner had too many animals to take care of.
In order to improve his chances for adoption, Kody took a ride on the Drive for Lives program to the BC SPCA West Vancouver Branch where he soon met the the family of his dreams. They wrote to share their adoption story as well as an update on Kody's transition into his forever home.
"After our old dog Tubby (He was also adopted from the SPCA thirteen years ago) passed away last Easter, we decided to adopt another puppy. We were so lucky to be able to find Kodiak (Kody) online for adoption at the SPCA website. Kody was originally from Prince George before he was transferred to the West Vancouver SPCA.

He was almost four months old then and was so fluffy and adorable! We decided to visit him at the shelter the next day. Kody was an amazingly calm and handsome puppy that our whole family fell in love with him right away! We brought him home the next day and started crate training, obedience, socializing him to city life, people and dogs... He was a little hand shy at first, but not anymore! Thanks to all his admirers whom he met on the streets, shops, and parks... Kody also loves to play with his four legged friends at off-leash doggie parks, and he even enjoyed a little swim out to sea!
Kody was afraid of going down the stairs when he first came home with us. But being a brave little pup, he conquered them in no time! Now, he dashes up and down the stairs when he plays with his squeaky green rubber frog...He knows most commands like 'come', 'sit', 'wait', 'stay', 'off', and 'heel', but he also knows something known as SELECTIVE HEARING... (!!)

We get lots of compliments when we go for walks -- People always comment on how beautiful Kody is. There is, however, one thing that nobody can totally agree on -- "What is his breed(s)?" Whatever mix breed he is, Kody is now a part of our family. Thanks to the SPCA for bringing Kody to us!" Emily
Actually, we would like to thank YOU, Emily, for opening your heart and home to this beautiful boy, and for sharing the experience. Your story will inspire others to make adoption their first option as well. We look forward to hearing future updates on Kody as he grows up with your family.
