Maggie, a two-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler is simply one of a kind. You wouldn't know it right away, but she is completely deaf. This does not slow Maggie down one bit though, she uses her other senses to experience the world around her and exploring is one of her favourite past-times.
Maggie is extremely high energy and needs an owner with lots of prior experience training and working with dogs, as she will need to learn hand signals in place of verbal commands. She is a smart dog and eager to learn, but needs adequate exercise prior to training sessions so that she will focus better.
Maggie would do well in a home with a well trained dog who she can take cues on how to behave from, this will also help build her confidence and give her someone to play with. She is a social butterfly with people and dogs alike. Maggie craves and seeks out attention from people, one scratch behind the ears and she will continue to seek out affection from you.
It is not a surprise that Maggie has some separation anxiety issues, as she has been shuffled around quite a lot prior to coming to the SPCA. Just having a consistent schedule and a stable home will help the anxiety a lot, and she will no doubt settle into her new home quite comfortably.
