Whole Foods Supports BC SPCA West Vancouver Branch... and Farm Animal Welfare

West Vancouver Whole Foods has been a staunch supporter of the BC SPCA for several years. This year was no exception: they raised over $4,000 for the SPCA through a dog wash and bag donations (customers who bring their own grocery bags can select a local charity to receive the money saved on bags). They also helped out with produce for our pigs!
Now Whole Foods carries SPCA Certified food products, a program aimed at improving the lives of farm animals. When you see this logo on a food purchase, you can be assured that the animals have been raised to the BC SPCA’s high standards of animal welfare. Standards of certification are set by animal welfare experts; farmers seeking certification are considered by an independent panel of judges, and must agree to random farm inspections. To find out more about this program, go to the SPCA Certified web page. If there is no Whole Foods near you, you can also find a list of retailers who sell SPCA-certified produce.
The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization funded primarily by public
donations. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and to promote the welfare
of animals through a wide range of services, including cruelty
investigations, emergency rescue and treatment, sheltering and adoption
of homeless and abused animals, humane education, advocacy, farm animal
welfare, spay/neuter programs, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
