BC SPCA constables seized 71 dogs and puppies from a breeder near Merville, B.C. on July 5. The dogs were in distress as defined by the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
“Many of the dogs were suffering from untreated medical
conditions including severe and potentially fatal dental problems,
untreated dermatitis and numerous other health issues,” says Marcie Moriarty, general manager of cruelty investigations for the BC SPCA.
“We also had some concerns about the dogs’ immediate environment,
especially given the temperature on the day in question.”
The dogs were subsequently surrendered to the BC SPCA where they are
undergoing medical treatment as required and will then be up for
adoption.
Charges of animal cruelty will be recommended to Crown counsel in this case.
The BC SPCA conducts nearly 7,000 cruelty investigations each year. Your
