Animal welfare expert to be showcased in HBO film

 February 1, 2010

If you are an animal lover, you won't want to miss an inspiring film about a woman who has revolutionized the way we think about animal behaviour and emotions, set to air next week.

Dr. Temple Grandin is one of many animal biologists who specialize in animal behaviour, but as a person with high-functioning autism, she offers insights on animals that she claims are unique due to the way she experiences the world.

Dr. Grandin's insights and frank recommendations to the agriculture industry have fundamentally changed the way in which many farm animals are handled. In 2008, she participated in the BC SPCA's Roundtable on Farm Animal Transport in Canada providing valuable commentary on the animals she believes are at the greatest risk to suffer during transport.

HBO Canada will air Temple Grandin on Saturday, February 6th at 5:00 PM PST. Visit their website for more information and additional airings.

The BC SPCA's Monty Fund for Community Education & Outreach provides support for prevention of cruelty to animals through education, awareness, and advocacy programs for all animals including farm, wild and companion.  Donate today.
