Celebrate Year of the Tiger by adopting your own furry feline

 January 15, 2010

The Year of the Tiger is just around the corner, and the BC SPCA invites animal lovers across the province to celebrate the year by adopting a feisty feline from their local animal shelter.

"Of course we're not talking about tigers, but about the hundreds of wonderful cats, particularly adult and senior cats, who are in our shelters awaiting loving homes," says Lorie Chortyk, the society's general manager of community relations. "We think Year of the Tiger is going to be their time to shine."

According to the Chinese lunar calendar, Year of the Tiger commences on Feb. 14, 2010.

People born in the Year of the Tiger, which occurs every 12 years, are said to be charismatic, courageous and driven with natural leadership ability. They also like a challenge, and so Chortyk is challenging animal lovers everywhere to consider opening their home to a senior cat.

"Every animal deserves a home and a family, regardless of their age," she says.
