Cowichan residents are full of love for animals

The BC SPCA's Cowichan & District Branch has 50,000 reasons to say thanks to animal lovers in the Cowichan Valley!

The Duncan-based branch was announced June 23 as the winner of radio station 89.7 Sun FM's Super Give contest, earning a whopping $50,000 in cash and advertising to help animals in need.

"I was completely blown away - almost speechless," says branch manager Sandi Trent, who was overcome with emotion when she learned of the windfall.

Sun FM's Super Give contest pitted 25 charities against each other for the grand prize of $25,000 in cash and $25,000 in advertising. Radio listeners were invited to vote online for their favourite charity, and the SPCA collected the most votes when the contest closed June 21.

Trent was overwhelmed by the branch's good fortune, especially in today's economy.  Read her interview with the Cowichan News Leader.

The local branch cares for nearly 700 animals a year, reuniting them with their anxious guardians, rehoming them with new loving families, providing urgent veterinary services and sheltering them until their "forever family" comes to meet them. You can add your support with an online gift to the Cowichan & District branch.

Each year, the BC SPCA cares for almost 37,000 animals a year, providing a wide range of services through its branches and clinics across B.C.  Your support of the BC SPCA October Grey Fund for Animal Care could change a life. Please donate today.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization funded primarily by public donations. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and to promote the welfare of animals through a wide range of services, including cruelty investigations, emergency rescue and treatment, sheltering and adoption of homeless and abused animals, humane education, advocacy, farm animal welfare, spay/neuter programs, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
