WHAT'S HAPPENING

Happy Endings update

Have you ever wondered what happened to a certain animal whose story of triumph or tragedy you read in the ?

To satisfy your curiosity, we caught up with Sundance, Belle, Joey and Herman, four famous fur-bearers who made local and even national headlines.

Sundance and Belle, two starving horses founded huddled together in a remote area of Mount Renshaw just before Christmas 2008, have completely recovered from their ordeal and are enjoying the comforts of being cared for by new loving families.

Joey, a poodle puppy thrown away like trash on a cold December night in 2007, has also bounded back from the brink in the care of the animal care attendant who fell in love with her while she was being treated at the BC SPCA’s Vancouver Animal Hospital.

And Herman, an elderly cat who was beaten by his former guardian on the Downtown Eastside, enjoys gentle companionship with his new family in Vancouver.

The diabetes Herman was diagnosed with when he came into care has even disappeared!

Read about these courageous and special animals in The Province newspaper.

You can help us care for animals like Sundance, Belle, Joey and Herman by making a gift to the Highest Priority Needs Fund, which supports the sheltering, medical care, spay/neuter, rehabilitation and rescue of homeless animals. Please donate today.
