Fundraising for animals in need has paid off in a big way for Langley resident Julie Lewis. An avid fundraiser for the Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause event, Lewis and her family formed their fundraising team, Paws for Hope, in honour of Lewis’ sister-in-law, Alicia Lewis, who worked at the Abbotsford BC SPCA Branch.
“It’s been fabulous for family and friends of Alicia to come together and support this great cause, and to help the animals she loved so much,” Lewis says.
She was surprised and excited to learn that she won two tickets to anywhere WestJet flies – as an added incentive for Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause fundraisers, participants received one entry into the prize draw for every $150 they raised online. Since Lewis raised more than $750, she received five entries into the prize draw, which was generously provided by WestJet.
“I was so excited to win! We are thinking of Dublin,” she says.
A lifelong animal lover, Lewis remembers how Alicia fostered a pit bull-collie mix, brought into the SPCA with a broken leg at 12 weeks old.
“My brother was looking for a dog at the time, and after meeting Riot, he fell in love with him. He’s been a member of our family ever since!” she says.
