Finding just the right gift for that person who loves all wild animals, big and small, can be difficult. Or for someone living abroad who is always fighting to preserve natural habitats and the environment no matter where they are in the world. The BC SPCA has the perfect answer: honour them by sponsoring a special wild animal in their name.
Gift options include a mailed personalized certificate with a photo of an animal patient, an e-card, or a printable card – a fantastic idea for last-minute shoppers. Your tax receiptable gift of $25, $50 or $100 will sponsor the care of an injured or orphaned wild animal for a week of treatment at the BC SPCA’s Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (Wild ARC).
This year alone, Wild ARC has treated an astounding 2,268 wild animals by the end of November! Your sponsorship will help everything from tiny baby hummingbirds to eagles, owls, and deer fawns. And otters. Two baby otters both came into Wild ARC’s care this past spring; one, a female found in Saanich, crying, without her mother and the other, a male found all by himself in Oak Bay.
“Both of them are growing strong, eating a lot and playing in these icy conditions,” says Sara Dubois, the BC SPCA’s manager of wildlife services. “They love to slip and slide into their pool! Sadly, adult otters are often trapped, which orphan their babies who are often in den sites.”
Help wildlife and scratch off those hard-to-buy-for people from your list this year by giving a special wild gift. A selection of 10 special wild animals for 2013 can be viewed online. Sponsorship certificates can also be purchased in person from Wild ARC at 1020 Malloch Road in Metchosin, or by calling 250-478-9453.
