Poll suggests new animal guardians likely to adopt
May 13, 2010

A new poll released by the Associated Press and Petside.com has revealed more people are planning to adopt their next pet, rather than buy from a pet store.
The poll, conducted just last month in the United States, indicates that half of those questioned said they would adopt from a dog or cat from a shelter, nearly seven times the number who stated they would still consider purchasing an animal from a pet store.
Some mentioned that hidden medical and psychological problems related to store bought animals were a concern, while others advocated for homeless animals in need of good homes.
The BC SPCA rescues hundreds of animals each year from puppy mills across B.C. These animals are found in horrible condition, locked in small cages with no access to the outdoors. Puppy mill owners are only concerned with making a profit - they do not care about the welfare of the animals or how many lives their business will affect. The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization funded primarily by public donations. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and to promote the welfare of animals through a wide range of services, including cruelty investigations, emergency rescue and treatment, sheltering and adoption of homeless and abused animals, humane education, advocacy, farm animal welfare, spay/neuter programs, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
