Saanich women charged with animal cruelty

 May 19, 2009 

A North Saanich woman who allowed her dog to suffer with a broken jaw, pneumonia and a collapsed lung has been charged with animal cruelty.

Iris Jones faces charges under both the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Criminal Code because her adult pit bull, Sherbert, was declined veterinary care after sustaining blunt force trauma to her jaw and other complications.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization funded primarily by public donations. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and to promote the welfare of animals through a wide range of services, including cruelty investigations, emergency rescue and treatment, sheltering and adoption of homeless and abused animals, humane education, advocacy, farm animal welfare, spay/neuter programs, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
