Spay/neuter clinic???s hours not being snipped, despite rumour

The BC SPCA’s ??????spay/neuter clinic in Prince George is hoping to snip the rumour that it is closed until further notice.

“We were perplexed as to why calls and visits were down during the past couple of weeks until it came to light through conversations with clients that someone had posted a notice outside the BC SPCA’s animal shelter on Lansdowne Road saying the BC SPCA ??????spay/neuter clinic, which opened in 2005, was closed until further notice because of lack of funding.

“This just isn’t true - we don’t know why anyone would post a notice like that, even as a prank,” says Dr. Jamie Lawson, chief animal health officer for the BC SPCA.  “We want to assure people that we are open for business as usual, with no plans to close or reduce services.”

Since the clinic opened in 2005, BC SPCA medical staff have performed nearly 3,000 spay/neuter operations each year for owned animals and animals rescued by the BC SPCA.

“We are a non-profit society which relies almost entirely on donations to provide services for animals in need, but we know how important it is to invest in affordable spay/neuter programs in this region to help the community deal with its overwhelming pet overpopulation problem,” said Dr. Lawson.

He notes that the North Cariboo SPCA Branch in Prince George has seen a marked decrease in the number of unwanted and homeless animals coming into the shelter since the spay/neuter clinic opened.

The BC SPCA Prince George spay/neuter clinic is located at 1909 Queensway, Prince George. To book an appointment to spay or neuter your pet, call 250-562-5556.  The clinic is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed weekends and statutory holidays).

The BC SPCA Biscuit Fund for Medical Care supports all medical care needed by homeless and wild animals in our care. Your gift will help injured animals receive emergency care as well as other important medical treatments including spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations and other veterinary care. Please donate today.
