Why you should walk to end animal cruelty

 June 1, 2017

The Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause event is the BC SPCA’s annual charity walk and largest fundraising event. Donations to participants and the event fund critical services to care for animals in need in BC SPCA shelters and to fight animal cruelty in British Columbia.

BC SPCA animal protection officer Cristie Steele explains why you should join us at the Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause Walk this September.

Cruelty stats at a glance

In 2016 the BC SPCA:

  • Conducted almost 10,000 new cruelty investigations;
  • Removed 1,151 animals from dangerous or neglectful situations through formal cruelty investigations;
  • Executed 140 warrants under the Criminal Code of Canada, the PCA Act and the Offense act;
  • Submitted 26 charges of animal cruelty and neglect to the Crown Counsel.

Every dollar raised will help us rescue and care for abused, injured and abandoned animals and work to prevent cruelty before it occurs!
