Rabbit-proofing your home

Before you let your rabbit hop around your house, make sure it's safe for him and that your belongings will be protected from gnawing teeth. This means hiding electrical cords, putting houseplants out of reach and covering table legs so that they don't become a chewing surface.

Covering electrical cords with plastic tubing is the best way to avoid accidents. You can also hide them under carpets or baseboards as long as the rabbit cannot lift the carpet to get to the wires.

Placing household plants out of your rabbit's reach may not be enough. Watch for falling leaves and pick them up right away. Do not leave your rabbit unattended in an area with household plants. Learn more about plants toxic to rabbits.
