When Chloe (age 8) and Ryan (age 7) wanted to do something special for animals in need, they turned to what comes naturally - creating sweet treats for their fellow students and teachers at Dixon Elementary School. By putting their time and energy into something familiar that their classmates could enjoy, they made it easy for everyone at their school to support animals and raised $447 for the BC SPCA’s Richmond branch.
Each year Champions for Animals like Chloe and Ryan bring others together in support of the BC SPCA. By connecting with classmates, family, friends and co-workers, Champions inspire others to support animal welfare in BC. No matter who or where you are, it’s easy to choose a project and collect donations. BC SPA Champions run triathlons, drive rally cars, play golf, make jewellery, take photos and more, all to raise money for animals in need.
While many Champions choose to create new ways to raise funds, others choose to include the animals in already-planned celebrations like weddings, birthdays or anniversaries. Even with celebrations there is room for creativity - champion Doris Gnandt found a perfect reason to celebrate AND raise funds when her cat Gnewton celebrated her 20th birthday! By holding a celebration in honour of one animal, Doris collected nearly $1,500 for animals in need.
Joining Chloe, Ryan and Doris as a Champion for Animals is as easy as setting up a fundraising page and holding an event. For more information about Champions for Animals and to start your own fundraising page, visit spca.bc.ca/champions.
On behalf of all the animals in need, thank you to each and every Champion!
