A local business has been busy cooking up monetary support for B.C.’s animals in need, all year ’round. By sharpening knives and gift-wrapping by donation, South Surrey’s Kitchen Therapy have raised more than $10,000 for the 40,000-plus animals the BC SPCA helps each year, including the many animals seized from breeders in Langley and Surrey in two recent cruelty investigations.
Located in Grandview Corners, Kitchen Therapy’s 3,000-square-foot store is a mecca for home chefs, foodies, professional chefs and rookie cooks alike, full of kitchen and giftware products, with cooking classes held regularly with high-profile chefs in a fully equipped, state-of-the-art kitchen at the back of the store.
“We’re huge animal lovers, as are most of our staff and many of our friends and customers, so fundraising for the BC SPCA was a no-brainer,” says Brent Bondarenko, who owns Kitchen Therapy with partner Robbin Lich. They also adopted their own furry family member, four-and-a-half-year-old Coco, and can’t imagine their life without her.
