Over 2,500 walkers in support of the 2015 Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause

Generosity in Action - October 2015

Walking for a change

An estimated attendance of 2,500 British Columbians showed up with their families, friends, and dogs to support the BC SPCA’s biggest fundraising event of the year. Organized by SPCA branch managers, volunteers, and staff,  each walk raised vital funds for communities across the province.

Every dollar raised online at and through pledge forms contributes to fighting animal cruelty through prevention and enforcement.

Fundraising in honour of our furry friends

In addition to walking, animal lovers shared stories of why fundraising for the walk mattered to them. Through the website, participants also set fundraising goals and asked friends to support them through email and social media. The animals have some great friends on their side:

“This walk is for Emma and the dogs like her still in need across the province! After 10 long years tied to wooden box, deprived of human contact and frequently neglected of even her basic needs of adequate food and water- Emma and 18 of her friends were rescued on December 31, 2013 thanks to the BCSPCA!” – Wendy Davies, South Peace SPCA branch manager and fundraiser for the Dawson Creek walk

“We're back this year, and I'm looking forward to a fantastic walk with Libby!  Libby and I will walk in memory of our best pal Yuki.” – Leanne Jensen, top fundraiser for the Port Coquitlam walk

“My family and friends know how important the Victoria branch of the BC SPCA is to me.  I walk dogs each week, and look forward to doing so.  I also fundraised for the Paws for a Cause event last year raising over $500, and I fundraise year round by setting up and managing the Sidney coin donation box program, and along with another volunteer I cover downtown Victoria also.”  – Susan Binns, team member of PawPower for the Victoria walk

A special thank you from the animals

In 2014, the BC SPCA rescued 25,942 injured, homeless, neglected and abused animals. Fundraisers and donors made this possible.

To all the walkers, fundraisers, donors, and supporters of the 2015 Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause walks – you have made a difference in the lives of animals in need.
