The SPCA Auxiliary

Generosity in Action - June 2016

The SPCA Auxiliary is a dedicated volunteer organization that has been raising funds for animals in need for more than 40 years! Through various creative fundraising efforts, every year this group from Kelowna raises a staggering $25,000 on average  for the BC SPCA's Kelowna Branch!

This group of dedicated volunteers began with a few local women meeting in one of their homes.  Francis Mangold who joined in 1975 is the longest standing member who is still active. She is in charge of the bake table at the luncheons. The oldest active member is receptionist Vi Young who is well into her 90’s. Currently, there are 30 active members, and many have been committed volunteers for over 10 years.

During the spring and summer, the SPCA Auxiliary holds garage sales at the Kelowna shelter. They also distribute and collect coin banks at many local businesses, and accept donations of funds as well as items that can be sold at their fundraising events. They have a very loyal group of supporters who attend luncheons, garage sales and donate.

The SPCA Auxiliary would not be possible without the support of the local Kelowna community and volunteers. Rosebuds Boutique is a very dedicated supporter that donates unsold clothing. Over the years, Callahan Properties has donated various vacant units in Mission Park Mall rent free for book and jewelry sales!

The auxiliary's donations have supported many incredible changes at the Kelowna branch, including the purchase of new washers and dryers, the painting of dog kennel floors, the purchase of new dog and cat scales, as well as countless other gifts.

Thank you to everyone who supports the SPCA Auxiliary and a very big thank you to all of the volunteers on the SPCA Auxiliary! For more than 40 years they have been changing lives and bringing the Kelowna community together in support of the animals!
