Wayne Deans

Generosity in Action - July 2015

Wayne Deans, co-founder, chairman, and CEO of asset management firm Deans Knight Capital Management, was once called “one of Vancouver’s more colourful money managers” by BC Business magazine. What makes him so colourful?  He is smart, charismatic and savvy.  This has made him a success both in business and in his charitable work for the BC SPCA.

Wayne has supported the BC SPCA in many ways over the years.  He has been a donor, sponsor, volunteer fundraiser, volunteer advisor and even a volunteer event organizer, raising more than $300,000 in one evening.  Most recently he was invited to be the Advisory Chair of this year’s BC SPCA Offleashed Gala.  The gala will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2015, in Vancouver at the Four Seasons Hotel.  As Advisory Chair, he has taken on an important leadership role securing major sponsorships and helping develop the vision for this event.

His first order of business was to sign up as a sponsor himself.  He then personally connected with friends, contacts and colleagues inspiring them to join him in supporting the work of the BC SPCA by becoming part of the gala.  In a matter of just a few short weeks, Wayne surpassed the sponsorship target, as well as attracting other volunteers and donations of support.

Wayne's love of animals is very close to his heart.  He and Leslie have adopted a rescue dog named Missie -  their sidekick, travel companion and running partner.  He savours his time spent in South Africa where he observes wildlife in their natural habitat.  Despite his intensely busy schedule, Wayne makes himself available to help the BC SPCA and is always just an e-mail or phone call away.  "Wayne is passionate and dedicated to making the world a better place for animals. His appreciation for what the BC SPCA does to help animals shows in his eyes.  Anybody he is talking to about the BC SPCA can see it.  He is an incredible ambassador and is, I would imagine, impossible to say ‘no’ to!" says Rosemary Conder, chief development officer.

On behalf of the animals in need you are helping, thank you, Wayne!
