About Rondriso Farms

The Tamis family has been farming in Surrey, B.C., since 1958. When Ron and his wife Pam took over the family's beef operation in 2001, they continued the family tradition of raising natural beef for their local community. The farm became SPCA Certified in 2010.

Ron and Pam have always followed humane handling practices and have even eliminated the need for dehorning, a painful practice, by breeding polled animals – breeds that naturally do not grow horns.

Their herd of 40 cattle are born and raised on the farm, free of hormones, implants and steroids, as per SPCA Certified standards. "It's long been a farm policy to raise natural beef and offer our customers beef that is also free from antibiotics," says Ron. "If an animal requires a treatment, it will be given under veterinarian advice. Any treatments are carefully recorded.  Rather than sell that beef to our customers, we keep it for ourselves."  All cattle are grass-fed and given a small amount of grain for finishing.

"I enjoy all areas of farming, especially having my boys grow up and learn all different aspects from cropping to animal husbandry.  With the SPCA certification, it helps me with my marketing and reaching the customers that appreciate the hard work and cost that goes into raising animals locally in this way, while providing a consistent and superior quality product."

Their beef is available direct from the farm, which allows the Tamis family to offer all their customers a very unique experience – a chance to get to know local farmers, see their diverse produce in the fields or at their farm stand and (depending on the time of year) enjoy a hay ride through their fabulous pumpkin patch!

These outstanding farmers are also passionate about education and do annual farm tours for school groups. In fact, in 2009, they had more than 1000 kids on their farm teaching them about food, farming and nutrition! Rondriso Farms is open from June to October 31.
