This unique fundraising photo contest encourages British Columbians
to explore greenspaces, roadsides, beaches and even backyards to find
striking images that represent the resiliency of local wildlife living
at the interface with humans.
Funds raised from this contest go towards food and medical care of wildlife in need at the BC SPCA's Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (Wild ARC), which cares for more than 2,000 injured and orphaned wild animals a year.
Congratulations to our 2011 winners!
More than 500 photos were submitted in the 2011 Wildlife-in-Focus
Urban Wildlife Photography Contest! There were so many great pictures of
B.C.’s wild animals that it was very difficult for the judges to pick
only a few to highlight. But, best of all - participants helped to raise
$2,700 for wild animals in need!

Photograph guidelines
Photographs can be submitted into one of two categories ("Wild
Settings" and "Backyard Habitats") and will ideally represent the
diversity of wildlife species in B.C. and the challenges they face.
Images can show fun and interesting animal behaviour, portraits of wild
animals in their natural habitat and adaptations of wild animals living
in urban environments. "Wildlife" includes free-living birds, mammals,
amphibians, reptiles, fish and insects, but not exotic, feral or
domestic animals, or wildlife in zoos or rehabilitation facilities.
How to enter
The contest is open to all photographers at least 14 years of age,
permanently residing in British Columbia. Photos must be taken in B.C.
and labeled with the physical location and approximate date taken. The
contest is limited to digital submissions, which can be in colour or
black and white. Winning photos will be featured in BC SPCA publications
and prizes will be awarded to the top three photos in each category.
