West Kootenay Cares - A New Home for Animals

West Kootenay

We are building a new and improved BC SPCA West Kootenay Community Animal Centre in Castlegar that will help care for and protect thousands of animals each year.

We are so close to meeting our goal of $2,690,000. This will enable us to replace the aging and inadequate shelter we currently have.

With continued help from the community, together we have already secured more than $2,540,000 including a very special gift of $900,000 from the Province of British Columbia and $250,000 from the Columbia Basin Trust.

Your compassionate gift that makes animal welfare in the West Kootenays a priority, will bring us one step closer to meeting that goal - to build a better future for animals in the West Kootenays.

The animals need you to help open the doors. Please make a gift today!

The New West Kootenay Community Animal Centre

The new facility will be a critical hub for animal rescue in the West Kootenay region and will be a special place to strengthen the bond between animals and humans.

The 4,250-square-foot facility will be located at 124 Heritage Way (west of the airport). It will incorporate modern designs to ensure the highest levels of health and welfare for dogs, cats and small animals, as well as designated areas for temperament and behaviour assessments and specialized isolation areas for sick and injured animals. The centre will also have a multi-purpose space that can be used for dog training, SPCA youth camps, workshops and other events for the community.

The current, aging facility, located in Trail, served 547 abused, neglected, abandoned and injured animals last year and we are excited to grow to better serve the West Kootenays.
