Members of the BC SPCA Kids Club receive our BC SPCA Animal Action Activities Sheet which encourages them to make the world a better place for people, animals and nature. As Mahatma Gandhi, a famous world leader from India once said, "You must be the change you want to see in the world."

Below are a few ways you can take action. We know you'll think of some more ways on your own.

Make adoption your first option

Did you know that 17% of people with pets adopt from the BC SPCA or other animal shelters?

What can you do?

Catrillions of cats

Did you know that a kitten as young as five (5) months can have kittens? One unspayed cat and her offspring can produce up to 450,000 cats in just seven years!

What can you do?

Be a good egg

Did you know that most chickens who lay eggs we eat never get to go outside? In fact, over 93% of laying hens live in crowded cages.

What can you do?

  • Ask your parents to consider buying organic or SPCA Certified eggs so you know that the chickens have freedom to roam and lay their eggs in nest boxes.

  • Reduce the numbers of eggs you eat by substituting soft tofu or other egg replacements from your grocery store.

Thera-pet-ic animals

Did you know pets provide friendship and promote good health in people?

What can you do?

  • Take your pet to visit an elderly neighbour or relative, or a classmate that doesn't have a pet.

Ugly duck ring

Did you know that six-pack rings are a threat to wildlife -- particularly ducks, gulls and small animals -- because animals can get their heads caught in them?

What can you do?

  • Clean up trash: gather your friends, family or club members and if you live near the ocean, organize a shoreline clean up!

Sylvestor and Tweety

Did you know that many of the birds brought to wildlife rehabilitation centres are injured by cats and dogs?

What can you do?

  • If you have a cat, be sure to supervise her when she is outside or consider building a screened outdoor cat enclosure.
