The Surrey SPCA has exciting plans!

In April 2012, the Surrey SPCA had to leave its former home in the City of Surrey animal shelter after its kennelling contract with the city ended. But the BC SPCA has exciting new plans for the Surrey Branch at its new site at 16748 50th Avenue (between Highway 10 and 32nd Avenue).

The new centre is not open yet. We are renovating the buildings on the site and working on development plans for the new centre of excellence for animal welfare.

Your support funds our ongoing local work in cruelty investigations, humane education and advocacy and will be used in the development of our new Surrey SPCA. Kids camps are being held throughout the summer at our new location and other activities, including an Education and Adoption Centre, will be phased in later this year.

The main house will be divided into two portions, with humane education space on one side, and a small animal adoption centre on the other. The small barn will be converted to a warehouse to house SPCA supplies.

Here is what has been done to date:

  • The small old house has been demolished, and the site was graded, topsoil added, and hydroseeded.
  • An animal-proof page wire fence has been erected around the property.
  • An entrance gate with attractive landscaping has been added.
  • The parking area has been paved.
  • In the main house, new flooring is down, electrical and computer wiring has been done, and protective wallboard has been applied to the lower four feet of wall.
  • In the supply barn, the walls have been painted, windows added, and electrical/computer wiring completed.
  • The old water well has been sealed off.

What is left to do:

  • Add outside stairs to main house and supply barn.
  • Convert main washroom in the house to wheelchair-accessible.
  • Demolish large barn; this is required before the City will issue a change of use permit for the supply barn or the renovation permit for the house.

Renovations are taking longer than expected. Thanks for your patience.

Thank you for your continued support!
